Dynamics-Evolution Correspondence in Protein Structures

چکیده

The genotype-phenotype mapping of proteins is a fundamental question in structural biology. In this Letter, with the analysis large dataset from hundreds protein families, we quantitatively demonstrate correlations between noise-induced dynamics and mutation-induced variations native structures, indicating dynamics-evolution correspondence proteins. Based on investigations linear responses proteins, origin such elucidated. It essential that noise- deformations are restricted common low-dimensional subspace, as confirmed data. These results suggest an evolutionary mechanism gaining both dynamical flexibility variability.

Evolution of protein structures

Within the ever-expanding repertoire of known protein sequences and structures, many examples of evolving threedimensional structures are emerging that illustrate the plasticity and robustness of protein folds. The mechanisms by which protein folds change often include the fusion of duplicated domains, followed by divergence through mutation. Such changes reflect both the stability of protein f...

Fold change in evolution of protein structures.

Typically, protein spatial structures are more conserved in evolution than amino acid sequences. However, the recent explosion of sequence and structure information accompanied by the development of powerful computational methods led to the accumulation of examples of homologous proteins with globally distinct structures. Significant sequence conservation, local structural resemblance, and func...

Protein repeats: structures, functions, and evolution.

Internal repetition within proteins has been a successful strategem on multiple separate occasions throughout evolution. Such protein repeats possess regular secondary structures and form multirepeat assemblies in three dimensions of diverse sizes and functions. In general, however, internal repetition affords a protein enhanced evolutionary prospects due to an enlargement of its available bind...

Evolution of protein sequences and structures.

The relationship between sequence similarity and structural similarity has been examined in 36 protein families with five or more diverse members whose structures are known. The structural similarity within a family (as determined with the DALI structure comparison program) is linearly related to sequence similarity (as determined by a Smith-Waterman search of the protein sequences in the struc...

Protein homorepeats sequences, structures, evolution, and functions.

The vast majority of protein sequences are aperiodic; they do not have any strong bias in the amino acid composition, and they use a subtle mixture of all or most of the 20 amino acid residues to code a great number of various structures and functions. In this context, homorepeats, runs of a single amino acid residue, represent unusual, eye-catching motifs in proteins. Despite the sequence simp...
